New Bengal Government will run from Writers' Building, said Samik; engineers start restoration work

The iconic Writers' Building in Kolkata is buzzing with activity again as a dedicated team of engineers arrived to inspect the premises. This move signals the government's serious intent to restore the historic structure and relocate the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) back to its original seat of power. The primary objective of this visit is to assess the structural integrity and expedite the remaining renovation work to ensure the building is functional as soon as possible.

This development follows strong political statements regarding the location of the state's administration. BJP's Bengal Chief Samik Bhattacharya had previously asserted that the government should operate from the heritage Writers' Building rather than Nabanna, which has served as the temporary state headquarters for years. The current inspection is seen as a direct step toward fulfilling that vision and reclaiming the historical significance of the Writers' Building.

The engineering team is focusing on finalizing the layout for the CMO and other essential departments.
